There is no doubt that General Hospital has a canvas so vast that it could arguably be bigger than most shows on television. And understandably so, considering it has been on air for 60 long years! Thus, as a result, many characters over time have come and left the canvas. Sometimes due to personal reasons, other times due to story-dictated reasons. Yet, time and again, many of these lost characters keep finding their way back to the soap!
Interestingly, something similar might be on the horizon for a lost General Hospital gem again! Recently, actor Ian Buchanan took to X to share a reunion photo that has us absolutely floored! Long-time viewers will remember him as the charming Duke Lavery. He first appeared on the soap in 1990; however, he died of a gunshot wound in 2012. He was most recently seen in 2020 in Julian Jerome’s vision as a ghost. In his photo, he posed alongside GH star Jane Elliot and yet another alum – Rebecca Budig. Ian’s husband also accompanies the dream GH team in the picture.
The photograph captioned “Out and About” has once again sparked speculations about the star’s return to General Hospital. However, the star we are talking about isn’t Ian, but actually Rebecca! Although we would take Ian back as Duke in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, he really is dead on the soap, so we don’t know if that return is actually possible. Rebecca’s character, Hayden Barnes, however, is very much still alive. Fans will remember that Hayden is Jeff Webber and Naomi Dreyfus’ daughter.
Rebecca last appeared as Hayden on General Hospital back in April 2020. However, the rumors about her returning to the soap have been just as aplenty as the ones claiming that the role was being recast. Although neither of them eventually proved true, this mini-reunion picture by Ian Buchanan has once again piqued our hopes that she would return to the fold. And honestly, she is such a fine actress that her return would not only shake things up but also add a layer of freshness to General Hospital.
The way she fell off the canvas with just a letter left behind was kind of disappointing. So, a return to pick things up where she left off could be fun to watch. What do you say?
